Call for Abstracts

The YHYS Fall Colloquium 2026, hosted by Åbo Akademi University in cooperation with the University of Turku, calls scholars for a meeting to discuss pertinent topics related to environmental social science. The theme of the colloquium is Facts, Fictions and Sustainable Futures. Read more about the theme here. While the plenary sessions focus on the colloquium theme, the sessions coordinated by scholars can cover various aspects of environmental social science, from the local to the global, and from empirical papers over policy-relevant topics to conceptual and theoretical contributions.

The colloquium sessions have now been selected and are available on the Sessions page. We invite scholars to submit an abstract to the session that best matches their research interests. As session formats vary, please consult the individual session descriptions for specific instructions and submission requirements. Abstracts should be submitted directly to the convenors of the chosen session no later than 15 September 2026.

Important Dates

Deadline for abstract submission: 15 September 2026
Notification of acceptance by session convenors: by 25 September 2026
Registration: 1 September – 31 October 2026

Participation Fees

Participation is free of charge for members of the Finnish Society for Environmental Social Science (YHYS). Information about membership is available on the YHYS membership page (external webpage, opens in new tab).

For non-members, the conference fee is:
60 € (regular participants)
30 € (students, including BSc and MSc – does not apply to PhD students)

Please note that the Colloquium participation fee does not include the dinner card (42 €). If attending the dinner, this additional fee is paid upon registration for the colloquium.
