Presentation of Research at the Paloma Research Network by Dr. Jenny Skrifvars and Hedayat Selim
On 15 May 2025, two researchers from the Psych-AID network, Dr. Jenny Skrifvars and Hedayat Selim had the opportunity to present their research studies within the theme “The psychology of asylum interviewing and decision-making: Findings from Finland” at the May seminar of the PALOMA research network, hosted at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).
Dr. Skrifvars presented the results of a recent training program she delivered to asylum interviewers and a survey study involving interviewers, interpreters, and asylum applicants. Also, Hedayat discussed the current issues in asylum interviewing and decision-making in Finland, focusing primarily on cases based on sexual orientation.

The presentations sparked thought-provoking questions and discussions about practitioner-researcher collaborations in the field of asylum decision-making, the role of training in promoting evidence-based practices, and appropriate interviewing techniques with vulnerable asylum applicants.
The PALOMA Research Network is a nationwide network that gathers researchers working with cultural diversity and mental health in Finland. More information here.
