Habitability in Practice: Participatory Sustainability Assessment and Micro-Credential Development
Habitability is a holistic framework, based on sustainable development, for assessing the state of small island societies. The framework builds on a mixed methodological approach combining structured indicators with local knowledge, operationalized through workshops, group discussions, and iterative dialogue processes. Participation occurs simultaneously across multiple levels, where community members contribute not only empirical observations but also actively shape indicators and interpret findings. The habitability method extends citizen science beyond data collection into participatory knowledge production.
During this workshop the method of habitability is presented and discussed: How to bridge scientific quality and citizen science? How to develop a valuable micro-credential course based on the framework?
