Upcoming event: Conference on SOGI and asylum decision-making, October 2026

Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) in Asylum Decision-Making: Towards an Infrastructure for Evidence-Based Practice.

Where: Turku, Finland
When: 15–17 October 2026

Psych-AID organises an interdisciplinary conference which will bring together researchers and practitioners working at the intersection of legal psychology, law, gender studies, and migration. The focus is on evidence-based and SOGI-sensitive approaches to asylum decision-making, with particular attention to credibility assessment, intersectionality, and the translation of empirical research into legal and institutional practice.

The conference aims to strengthen international collaboration and to contribute to the development of shared conceptual and methodological frameworks for research on SOGI-related asylum claims.

Further information, including the program, speakers, and registration details, will be published on a dedicated conference page in due course.

Edited anthology
The conference will culminate in the preparation of an edited, peer-reviewed anthology bringing together international research on SOGI and asylum decision-making. The volume will consolidate interdisciplinary perspectives from legal psychology, law, and gender studies, with the aim of providing a shared empirical and conceptual foundation for future research and practitioner training.

Conference participants will be invited to contribute chapters to the anthology following the event. The volume is intended as a lasting scholarly output and as a piece of research infrastructure supporting evidence-based and SOGI-sensitive asylum practices.
