TekNatur inspires young people in technology and science
TekNatur consists of three competitions in technology and natural sciences aimed at Swedish-speaking pupils in grades 7-9 and upper secondary schools. The aim is to provide a platform for young people to explore and develop their interests in a fun and diverse way. Through a range of activities, competitions and workshops, participants are given the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and skills, while being encouraged to think creatively, solve problems and work together.
In TekNatur/Sjukamp, seventh graders work together as a class to solve tricky challenges. The seven best classes qualify for the final, which takes place in Helsinki in April. The final day will also see the TekNatur/Challenge, an innovation competition aimed at pupils in grades 8-9. Students work in small groups to find a solution to a complex problem. At the end of the day, the groups present their ideas to the other participants.
The TekNatur/Physics competition, in turn, is for high school students and consists of a more traditional physics test. Seven of the participants win a study trip to CERN or Munich, where they can immerse themselves in physics and natural sciences together with other upper secondary school students.
Cooperation with Åbo Akademi University
In 2025, TekNatur is collaborating with SOS and Åbo Akademi University’s research profile The Sea on the TekNatur/Challenge competition, whose theme this year is “Living Seas”. In addition to Åbo Akademi’s researchers and experts providing knowledge and inspiration to the students, the participating subject teachers also get to hear a lecture on the same theme.
TekNatur is organized by the Svenska tekniska vetenskapsakademien i Finland, Tekniska Föreningen i Finland (TFiF), and Arcada University of Applied Sciences.
