Sea Seminar: Synthesizing Art and Science – A Collaborative Approach to Contributing to Social and Environmental Change

Dr. Einat Amir

In this talk, Einat Amir will discuss a novel model for ArtScience collaborations based on a better power balance between artists and scientists. With improved planning and methodologies, these collaborations can significantly contribute to social and environmental change. Amir will present case studies of “synthesizing art and science”, demonstrating how it can yield innovative solutions to contemporary ‘Wicked’ problems.

Einat Amir is an artist, researcher, and educator. She earned her doctoral degree from the Department of Art & Media and the Department of Neuroscience & Biomedical Engineering at Aalto University, Finland. She received her MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University, NY. In her research she focuses on methodologies of collaboration between artists and scientists, proposing an innovative practice, in which both parties are equal forces, allowing themselves and each other the liberties to experiment outside their discipline. Amir’s research and ArtScience collaborations aim to contribute to social and environmental transformations.

The Sea Seminar series is a collaboration between the ÅAU profiling are The Sea and SOS. The seminars are organized once a month with a hybrid setup, and they are open to everyone interested in marine and sustainability issues.
