The Sea Hub Network Meeting

The Sea Hub is a collaboration between the strategic research profiling area The Sea and the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Ocean Science (SOS) at Åbo Akademi University.

The aim of this network is to foster collaboration and exchange regarding marine wicked problems and sustainability among our international community of marine and maritime researchers and research institutions. The network members meet biannually, with the next meeting taking place March 26-27 in Turku.

In person: Åbo Akademi University, Turku, Finland – Arken (Tehtaankatu 2) & Aurum (Henrikinkatu 2)
Online: Zoom (the link will be sent out to registered participants closer to the meeting)

The day will start with lunch (at own cost) at restaurant Grädda (Piispankatu 15). The meeting sessions will take place in the Aurum building (Henrikinkatu 2) in room Rhodium (ground floor, from the main lobby to the left). The day will conclude with dinner at restaurant Gustavo (Linnankatu 1), courtesy of SOS.

13:15–14:25 Session 1: Opening

― Welcome words by Prof. Christian Pansch-Hattich.
― A round of updates from participants (new projects, publications, etc.)

14:30–16:00 Session 2: PhD collaboration

― A workshop for Hub partners and doctoral researchers to brainstorm collaboration opportunities.

16:15–17:15 Session 3: Short presentations from Hub partners

― We have reserved 1 hour for short presentations (à 10-15 minutes) from attendees. If you would like to give a presentation, please contact us at sos@abo.fi.

19:00–21:00  Dinner

Dinner is covered by SOS.

The meeting sessions will take place in the Arken building (Tehtaankatu 2) in room Helikon (2nd floor, from the main lobby up the stairs). The day will conclude with lunch (at own cost) at restaurant Grädda (Piispankatu 15).

― Identifying opportunities for collaboration regarding upcoming funding calls, conferences (e.g., 7th World Conference on Marine Biodiversity), publications, and other research activities.

10:45–11:15  Coffee

11:15–12:15 Session 5: Teaching collaboration

― Discussion on Master’s Programs and other teaching collaboration.

12:15–12:45 Closing

― Takeaways and next steps.
― Closing remarks.
