Stem cells course 2026 (from 13.1.)

Welcome to the Stem Cells course (5 ECTS)! This advanced course offers an in-depth exploration of stem cell biology, covering fundamental concepts, current research, and applications. In addition, the course provides insight into ethical considerations related to stem cell research and therapy. The course is suitable for MSc students (4th–5th year) and PhD students in cell biology and related fields, with instruction conducted in English.

Course Details:

  • Dates: January 13 to March 5, Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Time: 8.15 – 9.45
  • Location: Auditorium Biology, Biocity, 2nd floor

Attendance is preferred to fully benefit from the material and participate in discussions led by numerous guest lecturers, all experts in the field. A solid background in cell biology and cell signaling is recommended to maximize understanding of the advanced topics covered.

After completing the course, students will have:

  • In-depth knowledge of embryonic, adult, and induced stem cells and the ability to apply this knowledge to biomedical engineering research and applications.
  • Insight into biochemical, biomechanical, and localization aspects of stem cell maintenance and differentiation, and how these factors are used in regenerative medicine.
  • Basic knowledge of a range of techniques for analysis and characterization of stem cells, and when to apply them.
  • The ability to form an informed opinion on stem cell research and usage based on ethical considerations, when presented with a case.
  • Insight into the most recent developments in cancer stem cell research and novel treatment strategies.
