How niche research can lead to successful industrial collaborations
Welcome to this year’s last Postdocs in Flames (PiF) Friday Café, where you will hear more about academia-industry collaborative projects. Coffee, pulla, and smoothies are served. First come, first serve!
Viitala research group has since 2010 focused on developing real-time label-free physico-chemical based analytical platforms for characterization of nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems and for measuring complex biological interactions. This is a very niche research area, but currently his research group is overloaded with requests for collaborations, because their unique analysis platforms provide information that is currently not possible to obtain with the state-of-the art techniques in life sciences. This has also given them the opportunity to receive several academia-industry projects funded by Business Finland Co-Innovation, Finnish Research Impact Foundation and PoDoCo. In this presentation, Tapani will shortly describe their analysis platforms, how they have been able to engage with industrial partners and what has been their guiding theses on their path when developing their analytical platforms.
