In line with the ambitions of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development\u2014to deliver the science we need for the ocean we want\u2014this session explores how marine research can more effectively engage with the human dimensions of ocean sustainability and support just and effective ocean governance. We focus on the scientific, conceptual, and methodological challenges of addressing human\u2013ocean connections in basic and applied research, including social-ecological systems, interdisciplinary integration, and inclusive rights and stakeholder engagement. We are particularly interested in contributions that critically examine the power dynamics that shape whose knowledge counts, whose voices are heard and how decisions are made in the science\u2013policy\u2013society interface.
