Residents across the Archipelago Sea are invited to take part in the effort and help measure seawater temperatures to spot thermal microclimates and marine heatwaves.

Our blue planet is heating up, and the sea around us is no exception. Prolonged temperature spikes – called marine heatwaves – are challenging marine life, including the important plants and animals that keep our coastal ecosystems healthy. The Citizen Science Archipelago Sea project offers information on how these extreme events affect our coastal ecosystems and what science and local communities can do to protect them. The project received funding from SOS in our 2024 Project Booster call.

The project invites residents across the Archipelago Sea to take part in this citizen science effort by deploying environmental loggers to measure seawater temperatures. No science background is needed – just an interest in the topic and a connection to the sea.

Want to join or learn more?
